Is this right for me?

Beginners Plus is ideal if you already know a little Spanish or have completed my Beginners Spanish course, and want to build confidence without starting again from the very beginning.

This class is a good fit if:

You have completed a beginner Spanish course, either with me or elsewhere

You know a little Spanish and can manage greetings and simple exchanges

You recognise vocabulary but struggle to put sentences together

You have used apps like Duolingo for a long time but do not feel confident speaking

You studied Spanish at school years ago and would like to pick it up again

You do not need to be fluent or confident already.

You just need some familiarity with Spanish and a willingness to practise.

What we focus on in Level 1 Plus

In Beginners Plus, we focus on helping you use Spanish more comfortably and naturally.

You can expect to work on things like:

Where do the classes take place?

My Beginners Plus Spanish classes run in two lovely venues in Beccles, depending on the day and time of the group.

Daytime classes

My face to face daytime classes take place at The Printing Press, a gorgeous space next door to Old School Coffee.

Printing Press, 35A Newgate, Beccles NR34 9QB

It’s styled like a Mediterranean courtyard, complete with an indoor olive tree, and creates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for learning Spanish.

While it’s not a private space, it’s calm and friendly, and ideal for a sociable daytime class.

You’re very welcome to order a drink from Old School Coffee, and the team will bring it over to you during the session. They serve delicious coffees and a great range of hot and cold drinks, perfect to enjoy while you learn.

Evening classes

My evening face to face classes take place at Old School Coffee in the heart of Beccles.

Old School Coffee, 33A Newgate, Beccles NR34 9QB

For evening sessions, we have private use of the café, creating a relaxed and comfortable space to practise Spanish together. A friendly member of staff is on hand if you’d like to grab a drink.

Old School Coffee serves up delicious coffees alongside a great selection of hot and cold drinks, making it a lovely setting for an evening class.

Sam
Teacher and Founder of SJ Languages

¡Hola! I’m Sam, your local Spanish teacher

I’m a qualified Spanish teacher and the founder of SJ Languages in Beccles.

I’ve spoken Spanish for over 26 years and grew up in Tenerife, where I went to Spanish school and later worked.

I love helping adults feel more confident using Spanish in real-life situations, without pressure or awkwardness. My classes are relaxed, friendly, and focused on Spanish you can actually use.

Beginners Plus is for you if you already know some Spanish and want to build confidence, join things up, and start speaking more naturally week by week.

FAQs – Spanish Beginners Plus Class in Beccles

Not sure if it’s the right fit? These FAQs should help

No. The class is relaxed and friendly, and you’ll never be asked to speak before you’re ready. Activities and games help you build confidence naturally at your own pace.

Not at all. Spanish Beginners Plus is perfect if you know the basics like greetings, ordering food, numbers and simple phrases. You may have done my Beginners course or picked things up from apps like Duolingo or holidays.

Great. This class is designed for learners who already have some Spanish and want to build confidence with everyday conversations and real life situations.

This 10 week course costs £165 and includes all your learning materials. You can either pay in full when you book or choose to spread the cost over 2 or 3 months. That works out as £82.50 per month or £55 per month.

Subject to availability, I may be able to offer the option to book individual drop-in sessions once the term has started, but this will depend on whether there’s still space in the group after the course begins.

Shorter courses, mini courses and cultural events will have their own pricing — these will always be clearly listed on the course page or event details.

Yes, if there are still spaces you are welcome to join. I recommend contacting me (Sam) and booking a taster lesson first to check that the class is suitable for you. If you then decide to continue with the remainder of the course you will receive access to the online learning area which contains all the material covered. This includes audio files and interactive flashcards.

Yes, as class sizes are small and spaces are limited, payment is required for the full term. If you miss a lesson, don’t worry — you’ll still be able to access the class resources and key vocabulary audio files in the online learning area, which all students have access to.

If you’re unable to make your usual class one week, you’re very welcome to join a different class that week instead, if there’s space. Just contact me to arrange it.

If you're looking for a more flexible option, there may be a chance to book individual pay-as-you-go sessions once the course has started, subject to availability. These include the live class only, not access to the online learning and community area. To check availability for pay-as-you-go sessions, please contact me directly.

No worries at all. You’ll still get access to the class resources and a copy of the student worksheet in the online learning area.

Please let me know in advance if you can’t make it so I can make sure everything is ready for you.

You’re also welcome to join a different class that week if there is space. Just contact me directly to arrange it.

Nothing at all. I’ll provide all the lesson resources and anything else you need in class.

You might just want to bring some change or a card if you’d like to buy a drink during the session.

You can enjoy a lovely coffee or cold drink before or during class at The Printing Press and Old School Coffee. If you're coming to an evening class, you can also treat yourself to a glass of wine or beer if you fancy. It’s a lovely way to support another local business while you learn.

When you book, you’re agreeing to a non-refundable course. However, there’s no commitment to continue beyond the term.
If you're unsure, you're welcome to book a taster lesson first, subject to availability.

Yes! There is street parking in town and several pay-and-display car parks, many of which are free after 6pm (though some may still require registration).
Tesco is also opposite the café but please be mindful of any parking rules or restrictions.

If you can say simple phrases, order food, introduce yourself or recognise familiar words, you’ll fit in perfectly. If you're unsure, send me a quick message and I’ll help you choose.
